Today I’m just going to start writing about what is on my heart and see where it leads! There is so much going on in our world that sometimes I feel I can lose sight of what the Lord is saying to me! What is the essential message He has impressed upon my heart? What is the theme of this season of my life being forged within me? What voices am I allowing into my space to make an imprint upon my heart, my thoughts, my beliefs, and responses?
Everywhere we turn there is an urgent need and call to pray! Sound the alarm, put out the fire, raise up a standard, and that’s just the beginning of what is swirling in the atmosphere around us! Whew! What do we do with all of this? How do we proceed in a manner that actually accomplishes something? I believe it’s in this action I am taking today … “Lord, what are you saying to me? What do you want to do in me? What do you want to do through me? Where do I focus my gaze?”
It always leads back to “choose this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”! The question is HOW? How do we do this? What are the actions we must take during this hurricane, firestorm, loud, crazy, violent season? In the quiet place, alone with God! He indeed speaks through all the loudness, but He desires to whisper to us in the quiet of the Garden within us where we walk and talk with Him.
Politics, saving our world, fighting for justice – all these things must be centered from the place of “being still and knowing that He is God”. Holy Spirit, what are you saying to me? What do you want to do in me, that as a result will shape and fashion me into someone who knows you more fully, hears you more intimately, and obeys you no matter the cost?
We are individuals, each one with an expression of our faith and beliefs, meant to make a difference in the world around us. We are meant to engage in the world around us as the partner of the Holy Spirit in order to leave the indelible imprint of our being upon those we are privileged to have any influence upon.
Lord, let us not seek to be a carbon copy of anyone else, heralding the agenda or call of another, but instead to be the original work of art that you have created us to be. Help us (help me) to be still and know that YOU are God. Just as you said to Zechariah in chapter/verse: 4:6: So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.
We can do so little in our own power. We may think it is great, but from God’s perspective, it is little. BUT … in His power, we can move mountains, we can make a difference, we can fulfill our purpose in our generation! All of this simply by spending time in the secret place with God and allowing our relationship with the Holy Spirit to create His expression within the fiber of our being. Wow – the power of our God is so beyond anything we can comprehend.
So – for me, I will keep expressing the message God places upon my heart. It’s as if it is branded within me as a mark upon my compass. I know that this expression will evolve, unfold, become more clear, and mature with every moment spent with Him. Then in response, by stepping out as a love letter, a scroll, a mandate, a messenger true to the call of the One I love and serve – by His might and power, to be able to make a difference in the lives and opportunities He gives me.
With so many calls to prayer, to repent, to call out to God, to join this or do that … let us remember, that we are a love letter written to the world around us by the Spirit of the Living God … let us be true to the unique expression that He created us to be, and watch the difference that our part of the picture will make. Let’s stay centered on Him, follow His lead, and watch what God will do in and through us … in Jesus’ name!
True and timely thoughts! I intentionally try to talk to the Lord when I get up and when I’m going to bed at night but sometimes in between Morning and Night, that doesn’t always happen. Today, Close to lunch and after another Bible study I was trying to figure out where to take my dog because she has allergies and I have been wanting to find a new Vet closer to where we live.,…And the Holy Spirit reminded me, you have not consulted me yet. Wow. Just like a lightening bolt. Every second of every hour is important to God and he wants to be part of that. But I have to be open and invite that conversation. Why is that important? Because I don’t know who God plans to put in front of me when I change course. It might sound silly, but, Yes, even changing vets is a change in course and will put me in front of people I would otherwise never know and give me an opportunity to do Gods will. I must open my heart and mind to God and His Word often and faithfully follow. He is my compass.
